(Dry January is just around the corner, after all.) You’ll likely find some specialty seasonal cocktails at your favorite watering hole, but to really get into the Christmas spirit (with spirits!), head over to a full-on holiday-themed pop-up bar complete with Christmas-inspired décor, drinkware, holiday tunes, and of course, plenty of yuletide-inspired boozy creations. The Santa of them all is Arts District cocktail den Here and Now’s annual Christmas activation, Blitzen’s (running through the end of December), with lights galore, Christmas-sweatered barkeeps, fake snow, tons of trees, and fun drinks like spiced mulled wine, a bourbon-spiked apple cider slushie, and a tequila-and-mezcal- infused hot chocolate. If you want to make a DTLA holiday bar crawl out of it, head on over to the Hotel Figueroa, which is offering a “Naughty or Nice” cocktail pop-up with an array of holiday-themed cocktails at its Christmas-tree flanked lobby bar through December 24. Around the corner, The Wayfarer has rolled out its “12 Cocktails of Christmas” menu inside its Lilly Rose bar for the whole month. And the GodfreyHotel Hollywood has transformed the bar on its I|ORooftop into a life-size gingerbread house complete with icing, candy canes, and decorations plus a gingerbread-themed menu and gingerbread kits for your DIY pleasure. In Burbank, The Green Room, a speakeasy bar hidden within the hilltop Castaway restaurant, has an immersive winter wonderland pop-up with holiday decor and themed cocktails and dishes that’s ongoing through January 2. Cozy up to a Christmas movie under the stars. $-$$ There’s a chill in the air, but in LA it’s more of a chill chill, meaning you can still throw a sweater on and sit through a two-hour movie without your teeth chattering, especially if you’ve got someone next to you producing extra body heat. E.P. &, L.P.’s MelroseRooftopTheatre has transformed its outdoor movie area into a winter wonderland, screening holiday faves like Die Hard (yes it’s a Christmas movie, please stop debating) and Jingle All the Way , ending with a Christmas Eve showing of Elf . Street Food Cinema, meanwhile, is putting on “Yuletide Cinemaland” at the Heritage Square Museum, where you and yours can stroll through a holiday light tunnel, say hi to Santa, tour a decked-out Victorian home, and, of course, catch a holiday movie, including Home Alone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas . Rooftop Cinema Club’s Drive-Up at Santa Monica Airport gives you the option of viewing outside in a decked-out seating area, or cuddled up in your car. The December lineup is heavy on holiday flicks with The Holiday, It’s a Wonderful Life and lots of Elf screenings, before toggling back to mainstream movies in January to perk up you and your date from the post-holiday doldrums. Synchronize skate. $ OK, so even if you two aren’t prepared for Olympic pair skating, you can still take to the ice this winter for some amateur action. The annual LA Kings Holiday Ice rink is back at LA Live’s Xbox this year, just in front of the, er, Staples Center (hey, we’ve got a few weeks left, right?) and now open nightly until midnight. And if you run out of time during the holiday rush, not to worry—the rink will remain open until January 7. Over at Dodgers Stadium (which is keeping its name, as far as we know), ice skating is just one of the activities you’ll get access to at the stadium’s Dodgers Holiday Festival, running through December 23.
